Into the Big City

Well I made it in one piece! Said my goodbyes to my little island family.  Got on the plane and flew to Tahiti.  So I serve in Faaa at Pamatai its pretty legit, but I miss the ocean and the view, but its good here because we got our 4x4 and a big house with a bathroom door and everything! And hot water! Oh it’s so nice! So this area is just right in the middle of roads and cars and city but I really like the ward they’re really sweet! My old mission president lives in this ward so that’s cool too! I don’t know what else to say.  I haven’t even taken any pictures this week because there is nothing to take a picture of, maybe next week! But I was happy to be able to fix a baptism just before I left! So now we will see how it goes here! Wish me luck, there’s a lot of work to do! Sorry I don’t have a ton of time this week but I’ll talk to you all next week, I love you all so much!

Leaving Paradise

As I am sitting in our little office at the church eating the baby food that I bought, thinking it would be like apple sauce, but really tasting like sour plums, but eating it anyway because it was expensive, I have a ton running though my head, of all that happened this week!

As you probably could tell by the heading, I’m getting shipped off! Back from where I came, Tahiti. I’m heading to Fa'a'a. If you’re wondering, it’s right next to Puna'auia, my old zone and it borders Papeete! And the ward is Pamatai.  To be honest I’m super sad to leave here but I have always liked it in the city, so it’s all good! 

But this week was so great we had two baptisms, Vaihere and her son Vaiarii! The spirit was so strong, and I was happy to leave this sector so much better than when I found it! Also today we were able to fix another baptism for this month with another investigator Tera, and with her Bridgette and Taimarii. My companion should be pretty busy these next few weeks!! But I’m so happy with the work we were able to do here at Tahaa! 

So I’ll be heading off Wednesday, by cars, boats and planes! Ask me if I’m done packing because I do not want to admit that its me going! I’ve learned so much here and If it were up to be I would stay but I’m not here for me, and there is someone who I can help in the big/little city of Fa'a'a! Ill never forget these people! This Island! And all the experiences that continue to shape who I am today! 

Tahaa, Island of Vanilla, crabs, bike problems, and so much rain!! Ill be back! And when I come back I’m not buying this nasty baby food again, doesn’t taste anything like applesauce!

Sunburn.....again

Sunburn ….Again.

Hello, sorry I’m a little later than usual.  It’s hard to get to a computer when you are on a different island. But I’m here! This week was great.  We were able to do a questionnaire/sondage with all of our ward.  So me and my companion and the ward split up to go do a massive contacting day! It was awesome. The members can do so much for us! And we got a ton of contacts! Also this week we had a wedding! With a couple that we have been teaching since I got here! There was so much food and so many investigators! It was so fun, we’re on plan for her baptism this Saturday! Also I got my Christmas package! Thank you family! And of course we had another activity! We went to a little island to play beach volleyball with all the missionaries in the zone! It was the best! I love private island volleyball games in the rain.  Best p-day activity ever! 

Have fun this week.  Remember the importance of members in this work! It’s not hard!

I love you all so much, find joy in the small things! The big things don’t come around to often!

It's Now February

It’s Now February

This week was so great.  We had a huge meeting last week in our ward and we asked the members to come with us for our lessons.  So this week we were in such a rush going to lesson to lesson with different members, but it was so great! The Spirit is so strong when a member is there.  

I regret not going out that much before my mission, and when I say not much, I mean ever! I was so scared hahaha, but it’s not that scary when the Spirit is there.  It’s like a really really high water slide.  You think it is way to scary and you will never do it, but if you try it you see that it is really fun.  And the best part is in missionary work you don’t get waterslide wedgies! So it’s a win win! So I would like to tell everyone that it will change your life! 

Also, this week we rode our bikes and I fell in the mud a little and chased puppies and ate fish.  Basically I’m trying to say that this week has been exactly the same! The work is good, the sun is good and I am good.  Thank you for all the prayers and love!

I love you all so much! I gave two years to serve my Heavenly Father and my massive family here on earth.  I realized this week, that all we want in our life is a happy family! That’s why I’m here to help families be happy now and forever!  Love you all.

If you’re not happy be happy! It’s a choice, a choice my mother taught me to recognize!  So chose it.  It’s the difference between just enduring the walk of life or enjoying the adventure God gave us!

Family and friends bonjour

Family and friends Bonjour!

The one thing I hate worse then spelling in English is spelling in French, oh my gosh its the worst!  I am so sorry for all the future missionaries that come and see the teaching records I have done!  It’s basically not even spelling it’s guessing! But it’s fine! If Joseph translated the plates, my teaching records will be a cinch! 

This week was so good! After all the parties and sickness on the island we were finally able to have a normal week! 

This week I think I killed a fish on my bike and I thought that probably isn’t a worry in many other missions, gosh stinking crabs and fish everywhere, This last week I kid you not I almost ran over a chicken! I thought it would move and it just...didn’t! Uuugh so much stress! You look up wave to someone and Blam Blam you took the innocent lives of two crabs! How do I teach with the spirit when you’re a killer! No, I know it probably fine but I still feel bad! 

But this week was good we rode our bikes a ton and no flats! I just fly through everything that’s in my way! 

We are working on four baptisms at the moment, and it never fails to surprise me how right after a date is fixed, it’s like we open the doors to problems! But if your investigators do the small things like prayer and studies in the scriptures they are always able to overcome all the problems! The small things are essential! But it strengthens my testimony each time! Not only can you see the hand of God in this work you can see the opposing hand as well!

One will lose! It’s the one you’re pushing against!

To overcome anything you have to rise above it!

The upward climb is always the harder of the two, but it’s the one that allows you to come-over or overcome any trial in your life!

Lets go up the hill not down it! One step at a time!

Let us all press on! in the rain in the snow in the work of the Lord!

It Rains so Hard Here

It Rains So Hard Here

Umm I wish I had more things to say this week, other then we went to Raiatea for a reunion! We get up at four in the morning walk to the dock, get on the boat with a bunch of sleeping people, then take the hour and a half boat ride to Raiatea we get there at about 7:00, eat, contact a few people and walk to the church, exciting stuff! Then we take the boat back at 3:30, Taught lessons, Taught English, it was just a really normal week as normal weeks go! I mean it not really normal, but its normal for me! 

Also I would like to let everyone know that it is avocado season here in the island.  We have avocados everywhere in our house, they just appear in sacks attached to our bikes! My companion doesn’t even like avocados! 

Oh also some lady came over to us to teach us about the science of the universe, and she got mad at me because I told her I didn’t believe in aliens.  She rolled her eyes at me and told me I was closed minded! So I asked her "what does it change to know if there are or not aliens". She didn’t have an answer. 

If any of you are out there stressing about if there are or if there are not aliens, Stop. Worry about the things that matter please. The things that really have an answer to the question "What does that Change”  For example to know that Christ lived changes everything.

That creates hope, fuels Faith, and opens understanding to who we are, and why we are here.

To know Christ lived, is to know that he suffered for our sins, so that we may be forgiven by repentance, and that we may return and live in his presence. To know Christ lived is to know that his birth, teachings, atonement, death, and resurrection are a testimony of the love that Christ and God have for each one of us. To know Christ lived is a testimony that can lift us over doubt, strengthen us in confusion, and lead us out of any darkness that we may find our selves in.

Worry about the things that matter, And I can tell you that this matters a whole lot for me and it can matter a whole lot for all of you if you allow it to.

So allow it to.

Muddy pants

My little thought for today is "give a man a fish, he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he doesn’t catch a thing and he'll probably starve so its just better to give him a fish!"

I speak from experience ocean fishing is the hardest thing. The only thing me and my companion caught was the biggest sunburn haha we are both walking like zombies today! 

Well anyway this week was good transfer calls came and my companion and me will be staying in Tahaa for another six weeks, so we’re happy! Tahaa is pretty awesome! 

This week for lunch I decided that I wanted a coconut.  So there is this tree just next to our house. Let me tell you all how one American and his French companion get a coconut from a tree.  Well first, my companion starts by throwing small fruit at the coconuts and kicking the tree, while I tie two brooms together with one of my many destroyed tire tubes to whack the coconuts.  My broom breaks! So I get my string to hang our clothes to dry and I tie it to a pole to loop it around the coconuts! And it works so I pull so hard and a big tasty coconut falls down hits a rock flies down a hill and off a small cliff into who knows where! So I run to see where my coconut went, slip on mud and tumble down the hill as well!  I sat on the ground so so muddy while my companion resorted to throwing small fruit again! 

People say it is easy to live off the land here but I am convinced I would die! I ate a few crackers for lunch that day.

It is much better to ride my bike and help people with things I know how to do!

Teaching the Gospel is not something that is hard to do, and it’s not hard to understand!

This kind of fishing is way better than the fishing in the ocean!

God loves us, and we are his Children! 

All He has given us is proof he is there and that He wants what is best for us!

All that is good comes from God and He has given us a way that it can continue with Him!

God is love (1 John 4) He gave us his son, and because of him, all is possible!

So much better than coconuts!

And muddy pants!
